10 Things I Can’t Live Without in My Kitchen

8 Oct
  1. Parchment paper! Why did I not know about this years ago! If you use parchment paper you will never have to clean a horrible baked on mess off of any of your baking pans again!
  2. Really good knives with a sharpener! I cannot tell you how much a knife will either make or break you cooking experience.
  3. My stand mixer! These things are so expensive it took me a really long time to get one but holy cow! What a difference. If you want to actually enjoy baking this is the way to go. It’s like having a baking buddy who likes doing all the hard work.
  4. My pressure cooker. Once I got over the fear of it blowing up my house and killing us all I really grew to love this amazing piece of equipment! If you want to have a quick meal and you need something that takes a long time to cook to cook fast this is your tool! Beets will be done in 10 minutes a frozen roast in 40! Seriously! It’s amazing!!
  5. My slow cooker! I’m pretty sure my husband and I would have died during the first two months of my daughter’s life if not for the slow cooker. When ever one of us had a free moment we would cram a frozen chicken or roast beef in there and usually by the time we had another free moment to eat it was cooked. We lived on chicken or beef sandwiches for what seemed like an eternity
  6. My apron. I love my apron! It took me a long time to start wearing an apron because it was only when I was spattered by grease or splashed by dish water that I remembered that they exist.
  7. My french oven. This enameled cast iron cooking vessel is the single most amazing cooking tool to employ if you are braising or roasting anything. in the same pan! It goes from stove top to oven allowing you to fry and brown meat before roasting it If you want deep dark almost unnaturally dark gravy this is the tool for you! This browns the food cooked inside it unlike anything I have ever seen. I got mine at Costco for around $80 which is a steal. They usually cost around $200-$400 at places like William Sonoma and fancy pants cooking stores. Just like the stand mixer although they are expensive they are so worth the money.
  8. KItchen scissors. Get a heavy-duty pair of scissors and keep them in your kitchen for cutting meat, fresh herbs and opening packages. If you use this tool for some of your tricky chopping you will wonder why you ever did it any other way.
  9. Rubber gloves. They’re not just for doing dishes! You can use them to protect your hands from heat. This will allow you to work with things right out of the oven or pot. You can also use them for opening tricky jars. They give a little more grip.
  10. Latex oven mitts. Regular oven mitts are fine unless they every get wet and then they stop protecting your hands from heat. With these heat proof latex oven mitts you never need to worry about that. You could stick you hand into boiling water with them if you wanted to. They are also easier to clean. Regular oven mitts that have gone through the wash are just never the same.

So there you have it. Ten things that I would recommend to everyone.
