Cinnamon Twist Bread!

I love Pintrest! What can I say? I’m hooked. The other day on Pintrest I saw this beautiful cinnamon twist and I thought: “I want to eat that!”. So I whipped up a big ol’ batch of bread and tried my hand at cinnamon twists. I would have to say that the twist is not even close to the picture that I based it on, however, it was delicious!! If you are wondering about the fancy angle….I ate the back half before the picture was taken. I could not resist!!

 

Bread Dough Recipe:

My Grandmother’s Mother’s recipe. I love the baker participation of this bread! The measurements are not exact. Just use your best judgement and make it your own. This is one of those recipes that is made with love!

  • 1 packet of yeast
  • 1 cup of warm (not too warm, you don’t want to kil the yeast)
  • 2 tsps sugar (to feed the yeast)

pour these into a bowl together and let it sit somewhere warm for about 10 minutes. You want the yeast to start to grow and foam up. Once that has happened add in a tablespoon more sugar, or more if you want it to be sweeter. Then just start to add the flour. Mix the flour in with a spoon for as long as you can. When you have to move up to kneading it by hand to incorporate the flour. Once the dough is soft and smooth coat the inside of a new bowl with some oil so the dough won’t stick. Coat the dough with oil too and put it in the bowl. Cover it with a tea towel and keep it somewhere warm. Let it rise for about an hour and then punch it down and recover it and let it rise for another hour.

This time punch it down and then roll it out on a floured surface. If the dough has become too soft just knead some of that flour into it. If you don’t have a rolling-pin then just use a drinking glass. Don’t feel like you need to use all the dough. choose the size you want to work with and save the rest of the dough for something else.

Next trim it into a rectangle and reserve the pieces from the edges into the dough that you have reserved for something else.

Next paint the dough with a mix of melted butter, vanilla and almond extract.

Sprinkle a mix of brown sugar and cinnamon on top of that.

Roll the dough into a roll.

Slice the roll lengthwise.

Twist the two slices together and pin the ends underneath. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Paint with another coat of the butter mix and bake at 350° for about 45-1hour. When you remove it paint it again with another coat of butter. You can use either the vanilla butter or just plain butter. The butter will keep it soft and delicious and make it really pretty and shiny.

It was so good! The vanilla butter is the secret! I can’t think of many things that smell so good! Enjoy!
