Vanilla Orange Creamcicle Cupcakes!

23 Sep

My grandmother made something similar to this when I was a kid. I always looked forward to my grandma’s homemade orange cupcakes even though they had orange peels in them and I thought that was pretty weird when I was a kid.

I have to admit I usually use a box but if I have time I will do the occasional from scratch recipe.

1/2 lb Butter

2 Cups Sugar

4 Large Eggs

3 Cups All Purpose Flour

1/2 Tsp Baking Soda

1/2 Tsp Salt

1 Cup Milk

2 Tbsp Orange Zest

2 Tbsp Orange Juice

2 Tbsp Vanilla

If you do use a box mix just replace some of the liquid with orange juice and add 2 Tbsp orange zest and 2 Tbsp Vanilla.

Orange Frosting

1/2 lb butter

1/2 kg of icing sugar

Splash of Orange juice

1 1/2 Tsp Orange zest

1 Tsp Vanilla

Orange or Red and Yellow food coloring

Vanilla Frosting

1/2 lb Butter

1/2 kg Icing Sugar

Splash of cream or milk

Vanilla

For a color swirl fill two disposable icing bags one with each color and put them side by side into one large piping bag. Be sure to cut the tips open before putting them in and them pipe out a little of the messy stuff before you get started.

* I’ve learned from experience that a much easier way to create a swirl pattern in icing is actually to just fill one piping bag with alternating colors.

That’s all it takes to make the most delicious creamcicle cupcakes ever! Hope you enjoy!

  1. I was so excited to find a scratch recipe for orange cupcakes! Most start with a boxed mix and the orange ones, especially, taste artificial. Can’t wait to make these for my son’s graduation party! 🙂

  2. And now that I’ve printed off the recipe, there are some important things missing – no instructions are included whatsoever. The recipe doesn’t include baking temperature or time, or the proper way to mix the ingredients. I can assume that they will bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, but less experienced bakers may need a bit more guidance…
